Otestujte si svou angličtinu s britskými mezinárodními zkouškami City & Guilds na úrovni B1 a B2 SERR* a uvidíte, zda byste zvládli novou maturitu.

INVITATION

CITY & GUILDS & language school GLOSSA, s.r.o.
are pleased to invite you to a seminar for basic, secondary, tertiary and language school teachers:

IESOL, ISESOL: Explore real life English methodology: Functions and Writing

Two methodology workshops on distinctive language aspects, namely language functions and writing skill, based on City & Guilds International ESOL and SESOL examinations with an emphasis on Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). There are two seminars running simultaneously on the same dates and venues. The participants are kindly invited to register for one seminar, depending on their areas of preference:

Seminar 1: Real Life English Methodology on Functions

Can you give advice, respond to a request, get someone´s attention, indicate lack of understanding or interrupt politely? Language functions play a crucial role in successful communication, and their development has lately become an essential part of ELT.

In the workshop we will look at some popular textbooks and study different types of activities to see how language functions are dealt with. The participants will be provided with some useful tips and ready-to-use activities for different kinds of classes. We will also look into the connection between teaching skills, functions and grammar. Finally, we will examine City & Guilds IESOL and ISESOL examinations to see how the language functions can be tested.

Speaker: Mgr. Zuzana Lebedová

Seminar 2: Real Life English Methodology on Writing

Speaking a mother tongue is learnt spontaneously, whereas writing has to be taught. This is twice as true when you are learning a second language, not talking about the fact that the popularity of writing is very low both among students and teachers. Students are often bored by tasks irrelevant to their experience and teachers are confused about what exactly they should require from a good writer.
In this practical session, we will have a look at how to make a task meaningful and close to real life, study the basic features that are a must at B1 and B2 CEFR levels and try out several awareness-raising and controlled practice activities that help to incorporate such features into your students´ written work.

Speaker: Mgr. Michaela Jelínková

Participants will receive:

  • A certificate of attendance
  • A handbook with seminar activities
  • A CD with complete IESOL and ISESOL sample tests at all CEFR levels as well as methodology handbooks

IESOL, ISESOL: Get tested on real life English!
A methodology workshop on international language exams IESOL and ISESOL City & Guilds with an emphasis on Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)

The seminar is focused on IESOL and ISESOL, international language exams developed by British educational institution City & Guilds, their methodology, detailed structure, unique features, applied testing techniques and teaching tips. The participants will have an opportunity to analyze the exams from differing viewpoints - that of a candidate preparing for the exam, of an Interlocutor taking a spoken exam, and an examiner assessing the exam. Throughout the seminar, the participants will work with a wide range of practical skills, grammar and vocabulary-oriented activities which are aimed at preparing candidates for specific parts of the exam. These activities can be easily used, or adapted as additional teaching resources for standard English lessons with a communicative-approach emphasis. The final part of the seminar is dedicated to the analysis of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and its relation to IESOL and ISESOL.

Participants will receive:

  • A certificate of attendance
  • A printed set of ready-made skills, grammar and vocabulary-oriented teaching activities
